About Cakes by the Bunch

For as long as I can remember, I have loved to bake. Ideally for friends and family but sometimes just for myself! In the past, I’ve baked for numerous special occasions including many friends’ wedding cakes (and my own wedding in 2010). People often told me I should start my own business selling cakes, but at that time I was firmly stuck on the career ladder working for my local council.

This all changed when I had my children and took a career break. When they started school I began making novelty cupcakes for school events and before long, the comments about selling my cakes recommenced and I just couldn’t ignore the signs anymore. I started to wonder if this was something I could make into a viable job. Completely by chance, I stumbled across some YouTube videos of other people decorating floral cupcakes. The rest, as they say, is history.

Cue many months of practising and perfecting both my decorating techniques but also my recipes – I was determined not to fall into the trap of supplying cakes that were ‘all style and no substance’.

In March 2022, our waistlines could take no more practice cakes and I launched Cakes by the Bunch!

cakes by the bunch, cupcake bouquets, cupcake flowers, buttercream flowers, North Abingdon, Oxfordshire

I had no real expectation of what would happen, but it turns out there are a lot of people out there who like flowers and LOVE cupcake flowers, as well as those who just love good cake!

When I’m not baking I can be found corralling my three young children, teaching part-time in my local school, or doing battle with our bonkers miniature poodle.

I am married to my wonderful husband who provides tech and admin support – if there is an issue with your invoice, it will be his fault! He has many jobs within Cakes by the Bunch including being my Chief Taster!

I feel really privileged to have created a successful, burgeoning business of which I am very proud, and especially to have baked for so many happy customers. Perhaps I can bake for you sometime soon…

“Thank you Cakes By The Bunch for another wonderful cupcake bouquet. I know the recipient will love them.”

FAQs

What flavour are your cakes?

Unless you ask for something different at point of ordering, my cupcakes are vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and my cutting cakes are vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and jam filling. Cupcake orders of more than 12 or any of the cutting cakes can be offered in other flavours if requested. However, in order to get the beautiful colour in the flowers, the icing does need to be vanilla in flavour in order to keep the neutral colour.

How far in advance do I need to order?

Typically about a month in advance but it is always worth contacting me to see if I have short notice availability – I hate saying no!

When do I need to pay?

Full payment is due when you receive your invoice and specific dates cannot be guaranteed until payment is received. All payments must be made by bank transfer. .

Do you deliver?

In order to maximise the time I have for creating cakes, I do not currently offer delivery. All orders must be collected from North Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Can you send cakes by post or courier?

Unfortunately not. Although the buttercream decorations are surprisingly robust, they would not survive travelling by post and I have yet to find a courier service that could guarantee safe arrival at an affordable price – if you know of one, let me know!

How long will the cupcakes last and how should I store them?

I recommend that to be at their best, cupcakes should be consumed within two days of collection (Although I have eaten them when they are much older than this!) Cupcakes are best stored in a cool place (not the fridge) out of direct sunlight. I freeze all my cakes to make them easier to handle – it also improves the taste and texture – and so they cannot be re-frozen. I can supply frozen cakes if you want to store them for a future date and you have the space. I recommend not to store in the freezer for longer than two weeks.

Are your cakes suitable for people with dairy or gluten allergies?

All cakes can be made using gluten free ingredients and/or dairy free ingredients. However, all cakes are baked in a kitchen where allergens may be present. As the final products are not tested, Cakes by the Bunch cannot guarantee that any products are completely free from allergens.

Do your cakes contain nuts?

No nuts are included in any of our recipes. However, the cakes are produced in a kitchen that contains nuts and where nuts may have been used.

What measures are in place to avoid cross contamination?

• Cakes using allergen free ingredients are always baked first using non-permeable equipment that has been thoroughly cleaned using a dishwasher.

• Cupcakes containing allergen free ingredients are baked in different coloured cases to regular cakes.

• Baked cupcakes are stored separately using bags that are only used for those with allergen-free ingredients.

• Iced cupcakes are stored using boxes that are only used for those with allergen-free ingredients

• Usual hygiene procedures are followed throughout the baking process.
